I need some input from all the great nurses out there in the CPN world. We have in the past run Magnesium Sulfate via a separate IV site-supposedly due to incompatibility of Oxytocin with Magnesium Sulfate. Research shows that these two drugs are not only compatible with each other, but also are with several of the most common antibiotics as a cozy threesome.
My question is–do your nurses have two IV sites when running Magnesium Sulfate and Oxytocin? If so, what is your rationale?
Thank you all for your input!
We do not have two IV sites to run Mag and Pit, we run them in the same IV line.
